October Board Spotlight

The Board of Education recognized Becky Duran for going above and beyond when a bus driver was needed. Even though she was scheduled to have a day off on a Friday, Becky stepped up and drove her route during a driver shortage.

Not only that—she also spent her weekend at both youth football games in Gower cheering on our young Dragons!

Mrs. Duran's dedication to the students of Mid-Buchanan is truly unmatched and often goes unnoticed. Many parents have shared how much they appreciate her commitment and the positive impact she has on our children’s lives.

Thank you, Mrs. Duran, for always putting our students first! 💚

Mummification meets modern day in 6th grade! Mrs. Vulgamott's students are wrapping up an unforgettable hands-on lesson by mummifying a pumpkin. Students sequenced the events of the mummification process, and then had an opportunity to apply their creative writing skills to create an obituary about their "pharaoh" they had just mummified. 🎃✨🧺

While learning about King Tut and Ancient Egypt, students dove deep into the fascinating world of pharaohs, pyramids, and preservation. Inspired by the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb and ancient embalming rituals, they put their skills and knowledge to the test by creating mimi mummies with pumpkins. 🏺👑

Using salt, baking soda, and a little bit of ancient wisdom, the class explored how the Egyptians preserved their dead, connecting science, culture, and creativity in one unforgettable project. Let's just say...King Tut would be very proud of their junior embalmers!

The learning doesn't stop here! Tomorrow is another IMMERSIVE trip into history with a VR tour of the PYRAMIDS!

Intro to Ag students are applying science by growing food with hydroponics in the Flex Farm! Each day, they test the water’s pH and measure nutrient levels with a TDS meter. Then, they make adjustments—replacing water, adding nutrients, or balancing with a pH down solution.

Through this process, students are not only producing healthy, nutritious food—up to 25 pounds of harvest every 4 weeks—but also learning firsthand how agriculture is evolving with new technology and sustainable practices.

The junior high choir turned the stairwell into a concert hall yesterday!

Their harmonies filled the space, quickly attracting a crowd as students and staff gathered at the “sound booth” to enjoy the music.

What an impressive display of talent from our Dragons!
